As part of our efforts to bridge the cybersecurity gap in Africa, we were part of the Co-Create West Africa Conference organized by the National Information Technology Development Agency on February 28th and 29th, 2024, in Lagos, Nigeria. During the event, our team met and engaged various stakeholders in Africa’s tech ecosystem to discuss the growing need for more cybersecurity on the continent.

Adewale Adeyemi, our Head of Business Development for Africa, was featured in a panel discussion titled “Translating Cybersecurity and Data Protection into Action—Fortifying Africa’s Enforcement and Disclosure Practices.” The panel also included Adora Nwodo, Founder of Nexascale, and Edward Onyenweaku, Head of Information Security and Risk Management/Data Protection Officer at eTranzact.

Here are highlights of Adewale’s points:

I. The Importance of Cybersecurity

Adewale discussed cybersecurity’s essence in safeguarding Africa’s rapidly advancing digital landscape and how organizations must prioritize building formidable measures to protect their assets against threats. He emphasized how Cytek is helping businesses by fortifying their critical infrastructure through our approaches in capacity building, advisory, implementation, and managed security services.

II. Addressing Challenges Hindering Adoption

Adewale highlighted critical issues like limited awareness, resource constraints, and a shortage of skilled cybersecurity professionals. He stressed the necessity of bridging the gap to foster a cybersecurity-aware culture that can effectively navigate and mitigate potential threats, advocating for collaborative efforts between governments, businesses, and educational institutions.

III. The Gravity of Data Protection and Policies

Adewale specifically elaborated on how robust policies can enhance cybersecurity practices and foster trust among consumers, businesses, and regulatory bodies in the digital realm.

Adora and Edward also contributed valuable insights, acknowledging the critical role of cybersecurity while delving into diverse aspects of the theme. Their collective understanding underscored the need for a holistic approach involving collaboration between various stakeholders to successfully navigate the challenges and ensure a secure digital future for Africa.
